A Patient Care Technician, also known as PCT, is a health care worker who has multiple certifications as a Nurse Aide, Phlebotomy Technician, EKG Technician and has successfully passed an authorized PTC Certification Exam.
A Patient Care Technician provides care to patients in a variety of settings. PCTs work as members of the patient care team in hospitals, emergency rooms, treatment teams, and recovery rooms. PCTs also work in clinics, doctors’ offices, outpatient centers, surgery centers, assisted living centers, rehabilitation centers, long term care facilities, nursing homes and hospices.
The role of a Patient Care technician includes assisting in examinations and treatment of patients, measuring vital signs & monitoring health, collecting samples, recording information on Patients charts, and preparing treatment rooms for examinations. Supportive roles may include performing clerical/administrative, clinical and laboratory duties. Patient Care Technicians are usually supervised by a physician, Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and generally have more direct contact with patients than other healthcare workers.
